Barbara Allen is the Chief Operations Officer at the Ronald McDonald House Houston whose mission is to provide a home away from home providing care, compassion and hope to families with seriously ill children being treated in Texas Medical Center member institutions. Prior to this, she was the Executive Director for Nabor House Community one of the initial impact organizations that worked with Serve Houston. Barbara launched NHC from a concept to a nonprofit that served 150 children and their families by providing affordable quality early childhood education in a Christian environment so parents could work or go to school. It was this experience with a start-up nonprofit that made evident the need for skill based volunteers for nonprofits. Nonprofit’s limited budgets, small staff, and life impacting missions is why Barbara is passionate about joining Serve Houston as a board member to grow the potential to help more organization and utilize volunteer’s skills in meaningful ways.
Barbara has additional experience in internal audit, financial reporting, and administration of preschool programs. She earned a BBA in Accounting, a M.Ed. in Early Childhood, and was awarded a Certificate in Nonprofit Executive Leadership from the Center for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership at Rice University.
