While I have served the community for many years, I have often felt useless when it comes to serving a non-profit. I have many skills, but not the stereotypical skills considered necessary for non-profit work (e.g. painting, moving heavy items, mentoring kids, etc.) However, Serve Houston has set out to change these stereotypes by reaching out to non-profits, seeking all skills that are needed and connecting individuals with these skills (e.g. budgeting, organizing, planning, etc.). I am super excited to know that skills I have are also needed. I am looking forward to helping others find ways to use their gifts and talents to help others!
